Welcome to Cuba, the new ecologic destination that will make you believe you are in paradise!
Before the arrival of the Spanish, Cuba was inhabited by three distinct tribes of indigenous peoples of the Americas.
The Taíno (an Arawak people), the Guanahatabey and the Ciboney people.
The ancestors of the Ciboney migrated from the mainland of South America, with the earliest sites dated to 5,000 BP.
The Taíno arrived from Hispaniola sometime in the 3rd century A.D.
When Columbus arrived they were the dominant culture in Cuba, having an estimated population of 150,000.
The Taíno were farmers, while the Ciboney were farmers as well as fishers and hunter-gatherers.

Dance!
Danzón is the official musical genre and dance of Cuba. It is also an active musical form in Mexico, and is much loved in Puerto Rico as well. Written in 2/4 time, the danzón is a slow, formal partner dance, requiring set footwork around syncopated beats, and incorporating elegant pauses while the couples stand listening to virtuoso instrumental passages, as characteristically played by a charanga or tipica ensemble.
Visit environment-friendly country!
The revision consists of an action plan with time limits for each item, and an indication of the governmental body responsible for delivery.
That document contains virtually no information about biodiversity. However, the country's fourth national report to the CBD contains a detailed
breakdown of the numbers of species of each kingdom of life recorded from Cuba, the main groups being: animals (17,801 species), bacteria (270),
chromista (707), fungi, including lichen-forming species (5844), plants (9107) and protozoa (1440).
As elsewhere in the world, vertebrate animals and flowering plants are well documented, so the recorded numbers of species are probably
close to the true numbers. For most or all other groups, the true numbers of species occurring in Cuba are likely to exceed,
often considerably, the numbers recorded so far.
Taste the famous products of Cuba!
For the uninitiated, let me shed light on this treasure trove. Celebrated for its complex blend of creamy and spicy aromas,
the Montecristo No. 2 is arguably the Cadillac of Cuban cigars; highly prized among aficionados and a rare find for the likes of me or
any other occasional cigar-smoking American.
I stepped over to admire the 25 torpedo-shaped beauties, light brown in hue and just over six inches long,
each adorned with a chocolate-brown band emblazoned with a white sword insignia.
Montecristo No. 2, the name inspired by the Alexandre Dumas novel, had long been among my favorites, rare enough that I couldn’t
remember the last time I smoked one.

Otramanera, Havana
An artist and sommelier couple relocated from the Costa Brava to launch this fine dining restaurant,
nodding to their roots with the Spanish-Cuban fusion menu.
Sommelier Alvaro Diez trained at legendary Catalan restaurant El Bulli, so as you can imagine, Otra Manera’s wine selection is stellar.
The menu uses organic goodies from a local farmer. One of the stylish new players in Havana’s private restaurant scene,
Otramanera offers seating in its minimalist interior or out in the tropical garden.

Where to buy cigar?
Where to buy cigars in Havana is a pretty simple proposition. Your hotel probably has a shop in it or nearby, but the best shops are the official
La Casa del Habano (LCDH; The House of Havanas) locations around the city and, while the following might seem like sponsored content, that’s the
result of a state monopoly on cigars. Some of the older stores were sold to individuals and are often called ‘Tienda del Habano’ or ‘Casa de Tabaco’,
with signs in the same font as LCDH. Do yourself a favor and stick to the official shops. All the prices for cigars are the same in every LCDH
and you avoid the headache of wondering if you got the real thing.
Here is a list of the best shops you can find:
- La Casa del Habano, Miramar, 5th Avenue & 16th Street;
- La Casa del Habano, Club Habana, Miramar (Beach), 5th Avenue between 188 & 192;
- La Casa del Habano, Hotel Habana Libre, L Street between 23 & 25;
- La Casa del Habano, Hotel Meliá Habana, Playa, 3rd Avenue between 76 & 80;
- La Casa del Habano, Partagás Cigar Factory, Calle Industria No. 530, Centro Habana;
- La Vega at Palacio de las Artesanías, Calle Cuba No. 64, entre Cuarteles y Peña Pobre Habana Vieja;
- La Casa del Habano, Hotel Conde de Villanueva, Mercaderes 1202, Esquina Lamparilla, La Habana Vieja;
, Calle 21 y O, Vedado; - La Casa del Habano, Hotel Palco, Calle 11 y 146, Cubanacan, Play.
Where to buy rum?
As far as the rum world is concerned, Cuba is home to some of the best out there.
Cuba specifically is known as the origin of some of the smoothest and most sought after rums on the entire planet.
The Cuban government still has a pretty firm chokehold on the country’s rum industry. You’ll notice a lot of the entries on our list
are from the same few brands; not for lack of effort on our part, but because there aren’t too many legal brands out there.
That said, each brand is home to quite a few excellent expressions and now’s good a time to get your hands on some.
Discover some of the best rums amongst all, here in Cuba :
- Havana Club Añejo 3 Años;
- Havana Club Añejo 15 Años;
- Ron Santiago de Cuba 11 Años Añejo Superior Rum;
- Santero Aguardiente de Cuba;
- Havana Club Añejo 7 Años;
- Havana Club Unión;
- Ron Cubay 10 Year Old – Reserva Especial;
- Ron Santero Añejo 11 Años;
- Arecha Extra Añejo 15 Años;
- Caney.
You now know everything, Cuba is waiting for you!
